You are looking at the Hose Claw, a very functional and practical tool for use in the fire service. The Claw allows firefighters to move and manipulate 1 1/2†or 2 1/2†charged fire hose in a much more effective and safe manner than by hand. The Claw was developed to solve three problems many firefighters experience: 1) Problem: The back-pressure caused by the open nozzle causes strain and fatigue on the nozzle-man's arms and shoulders. Solution: The Claw can be attached by a carabiner to the nozzle-man’s belt and the hose can be easily locked into the Claw at the nozzle-man’s waist. This brings the back-pressure directly to the nozzle-man’s waist and legs, rather than his upperbody. Often this can take several firefighters and it wastes time. Solution: The Claw allows the firefighter to maximize his/her strength while feeding hose past any obstacles. The firefighter can stand in one spot and use the ratcheting action of the Claw to feed the attack hose to the nozzle-man. (See the picture of a firefighter advancing a line) 3) Problem: While advancing to a fire, extreme heat can force the nozzle-man and his team to advance on their knees. Attempting to advance a charged fire hose while crawling is extremely difficult. Solution: The Claw can be attached to any firefighter’s belt by a carabiner, and the fire hose can easily be locked into the Claw. Using this method, the advancing team is able to use both arms to crawl to the seat of a fire and the nozzle is still very accessible. It can even hook onto something as smooth as a wooden broom handle. The Claw is made of 3/4" laser cut steel, has teeth at the bottom for more grip and has a professional chrome finish.
