What is for sale: Machine operation information 7 guides, machinist
WE'RE NOT BORN KNOWING THIS STUFF. MOST OF US LEARN BY TRIAL AND ERROR. UNFORTUNTALY, WORKING IN THE SHOP IS NOT THE TIME FOR THOSE LITTLE MISTAKES WHICH OFTEN BECOME BIG AND TIME CONSUMING PROBLEMS.
MORE THAN ALMOST ANYTHING THIS GUIDE CAN PREVENT THOSE EXPENSIVE SURPRISES.
GUIDE TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR BANDSAW MACHINIST $8.95
Start up a conversation about sawing with many production people and the first type of machine that will probably come into their minds is the bandsaw. In the 185 years since the first one was patented, it has developed into one of the most productive machine tools in the shop. And if there does exist a bandsawing bias in America, as many people claim, there is also a wide variety of jobs the machine can handle.
Band sawing basically serves two purposes: cutoff sawing and contour sawing. As a cutoff machine, the bandsaw vies with several other sawing methods, including circular and hack, and to a lesser extent with other cutoff methods, such as abrasive, shear, and single-point cutoff. In its other main use, that of contouring machine, the bandsaw competes with a wide range of other machining methods, including milling, shaping, flame cutting, hobbing, broaching, shearing, nibbling, and even lathe turning
MACHINIST GUIDE TO THE SHAPER, METALWORKING, MACHINES $8.95
THE shaper is used to produce flat surfaces on comparatively small pieces of work. These flat surfaces may be horizontal, vertical, or angular. Most shaper work may be classed under these three headings.
There are three types of shapers: (1) the crank shaper, (2) the hydraulic shaper, (3) the gear shaper.
MACHINIST GUIDE TO THE PLANER, METALWORKING MACHINE $8.95
THE planer is used to machine horizontal, vertical, and angular surfaces. These three operations are used on most planer work although there is some work performed by the use of special attachments.
GUIDE TO GRINDING MACHINES, MACHINIST, METALWORKING $8.95
VALUE OF GRINDING AS FINISHING PROCESS. When greater accuracy is required, than that obtainable on the milling machine or the lathe, recourse is had to grinding. This operation depends upon the abrasive or cutting qualities of emery, corundum, and carborundum. With work properly held to a solid grinding wheel, it is not difficult to attain great accuracy. By means of the grinding machine, parts may be economically finished, even in hardened steel, that could not possibly be machined on such shop tools as the lathe, planer, or shaper. With the grinding machine, surfaces may be ground so accurately that the variation from the required dimension is less than .0001 inch.
INTRODUCTION TO EDM, MACHINIST, METALWORKING $8.95
Spark erosion is solidly established in tool-making and some types of production. This report explains the fundamentals of EDM, plus some new tricks that expand its capabilities
Electrical-Discharge Machining has been with us for more than 30 years. When it was first introduced, it was hailed by some as the ultimate way to machine metal, and some of the more optimistic gages predicted that the process would make all other metalcutting methods obsolete within a few years.
NEW MACHINIST GUIDE TO KNURLING METALWORKING $8.95
Knurling is widely used in industry for many applications. Some of these include: decorative and "grip" surfaces, repair of undersized shafts and oversize bores, and driving serrations and splines. The word "knurling" applies to both the method of production, and the rolled section on the part. It is usually produced by forcing a knurling die into the surface of a rotating part, displacing material from the original diameter.
INTRODUCTION TO WATER JET MACHINING, MACHINIST $8.95
A waterjet is a tool used in machine shops to cut metal parts with a (very) high-pressure stream of water. As amazing as it sounds, if you get water flowing fast enough it can actually cut metal!
Think of a waterjet as something with about 30 times the pressure of the power washer wand at your local car wash. Power washing at car washes is an everyday example of a dirt film being "cut" off the body, wheels and tires of an automobile.
The key to cutting metal with water is to keep the spray coherent. Waterjets are able to cut because the spray is channeled through a very narrow jeweled nozzle at a very high pressure to keep the spray coherent. Unlike metal cutters, a waterjet never gets dull and it cannot overheat.
THE PURPOSE OF THIS GUIDE IS TO HELP THE BEGINNER OBTAIN A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE FUNDAMENTALS AND PRINCIPLES OF MODERN MACHINE SHOP PRACTICE.
THE GUIDE IS THOROUGHLY PRACTICAL BECAUSE IT APPROACHES MACHINE SHOP WORK FROM THE HOW-TO-DO-IT VIEWPOINT.
THE GUIDE IS PROFUSELY ILLUSTRATED. IN MANY INSTANCES EACH STEP OF OPERATION IS ILLUSTRATED, BECAUSE WE BELIEVE THAT TO THE LEARNER ONE GOOD ILLUSTRATION IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS OF EXPLANATION.
READING THESE GUIDES WILL NOT MAKE YOU AN EXPERT, BUT READING THEM AND A LOT OF PRACTICE WILL PUT YOU ON YOUR WAY TO BECOMING ONE.
WE PUBLISH METALWORKING QUICK FACT GUIDES FOR METALWORKING PEOPLE. THEY ARE DIRECTED TOWARDS MACHINISTS, APPRENTICE MACHINISTS, GUNSMITHS, SHOP INSTRUCTORS, HOME SHOP MACHINISTS AND METALWORKERS IN FACT, ANYONE WHO WORKS WITH METAL.
THEY COVER MANY ASPECTS OF THE METALWORKING TRADE.
METALWORKING GUIDES, THESE ARE SHORT GUIDES ON METALWORKING, THEY ARE NOT COLLEGE COURSES.
The purpose of these guides is to consolidate in one publication, basic information on various subjects, written simply so it will be easily understood.
E-Book is short for Electronic Book. What that means is a book that is read in electronic form, for example on your computer.
You can read it like a regular book, page by page, or you can click on an item and go directly there.
You can download this book to your computer or just use it from the disc.
There is a Print function, also on the Toolbar. If you need to frequently refer to some information or just want a hardcopy, please feel free to print out any relevant pages
A big advantage to an e-book is that when you get it you receive it you get the latest information. In a regular book once it is printed, that's it, it is costly to reprint the book, so if any new information is used or any errors in the book are found, you will have to wait for the new version, with an e-book, it is easy to change it. so that you receive the latest information.
WHY DO WE SEND THE GUIDE ON A "CD"
MOST PEOPLE CAN NOT MAKE A COPY, SO IF THE
COMPUTER CRASHES THEY LOSE THE INFORMATION
WE CAN SEND THIS GUIDE TO YOUR E-MAIL
PLEASE PUT SEND TO E-MAIL IN THE SUBJECT
THIS GUIDE WILL WORK ON A MAC OR PC SYSTEM
