Ramsond Group is an American company, headquartered in Detroit, Michigan. In the last few years, Ramsond has quickly become a recognized, reliable and reputable source for a variety of industrial and consumer based products. Ramsond’s expanding product portfolio now includes both industrial and consumer based power generation (thermal, combustion and alternative power generation), appliances (refrigeration and air conditioning), water treatment and industrial and construction tools and machinery. Ramsond’s rapid growth of its product portfolio and its continued success are undoubtedly the result of its uncompromising focus on quality and after-sale service.
Ramsond introduces its newly redesigned inverter series SUPER 160P. It is an exciting new innovation that combines a 40 Amp air plasma cutter, a 160 Amp TIG welder and a 150 Amp MMA (ARC) Welder into a handsome, rugged, compact and light weight package. What makes this unit truly unique is the added dual AC/DC TIG weld function and pulse control. The Ramsond SUPER 160P utilizes microprocessor controlled digital inverter technology, which not only makes it lighter and more compact, but also renders the welding and cutting current far more stable, accurate and easy to adjust. The arc is also more straight and the heat more concentrated, resulting in professional quality finishes.
In addition to the standard DC TIG function (suitable for steel and other non-ferrous metals), the Ramsond SUPER 160P offers the unique feature of AC TIG-welding. Aluminum, copper and magnesium and their alloys are best welded using alternating current (AC). AC TIG welding is a multi purpose process, which offers the user great flexibility. By changing the diameter of the tungsten electrode, welding may be performed with a wide range of heat input at different thicknesses. AC TIG-welding is possible with thicknesses down to about 0.5 mm. When used with alternating current (AC), the use of argon results in high weld quality and good appearance. ALTERNATING CURRENT (AC) also provides a self-cleaning effect, removing the thin, refractory aluminum oxide (sapphire) layer that forms on aluminum metal within minutes of exposure to air.
In the pulsed-current mode, the welding current rapidly alternates between two levels. The higher current state is known as the pulse current, while the lower current level is called the background current. During the period of pulse current, the weld area is heated and fusion occurs. Upon dropping to the background current, the weld area is allowed to cool and solidify. Pulsed-current has a number of advantages, including lower heat input and consequently a reduction in distortion and warpage in thin workpieces. In addition, it allows for greater control of the weld pool, and can increase weld penetration, welding speed, and quality. The RAMSOND SUPER160P allows the operator to program a specific rate and magnitude of current and frequency variations, making it useful for specialized applications.
Pulsed current is also most useful when welding dissimilar metals. In case of dissimilar metals, the joint must have an accurate fit, with proper gap dimensions and bevel angles. Care should be taken to avoid melting excessive base material. Pulsed current is particularly useful for these applications, as it helps limit the heat input.
The RAMSOND SUPER 160P rectifies the mains voltage (220V) into DC (Direct Current), which is then fed into either a series of MOSFETs (Metal – Oxide – Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor). These MOSFETs (transistors) are switched at thousands of Hertz, which greatly reduces the magnetic flux, and therefore the size of the transformer. Hence, the use of MOSFETs allows for a compact and light weight machine with exception performance parameters.
TRADEMARK ISSUES & QUALITY COMPONENTS
Although Ramsond can protect the use of its legally Registered Trademarked name, it cannot trademark the word “Super” or the number “160” or the letter “P.” Therefore, other suppliers have similar appearing plasma cutters under the name “Super” and/or “160P.” But, it is crucial to note that they are not produced by Ramsond. There are critical differences in plasma cutters/welder that should be considered. Most importantly, the critical components used in an INVERTER plasma cutter/welder determine the performance and durability of the machine. By way of example, MOSFETs, the heart of a plasma cutter/welder, are the most critical (and most expensive) component of a plasma cutter. They are the mechanism by which the necessary cutting power is produced.
A recent industry investigation of Chinese manufactured welding/plasma cutting equipment has revealed a disturbing pattern of using SECOND-HAND, RECYCLED MOSFETs. All components used in Ramsond equipment are BRAND NEW. Ramsond products, including Ramsond SUPER P series use only the best and the most premium components. All critical components used in Ramsond equipment are selected by its team of US specialists to ensure the highest quality and durability. For example, MOSFETs used in Ramsond Super series plasma cutters are manufactured by Fuji and Toshiba (Toshiba for Super160P and Fuji for Super200p series).
COMPARE THE RAMSOND SUPER P SERIES
Cut at 12 Times the Speed of Sound
Ramsond Super 160 P is also equipped with a 40 Amp Plasma Cutter. Plasma cutting is a process that is used to cut steel and other metals using a plasma torch. In this process, an inert gas (compressed air) is blown at high speed out of a nozzle; at the same time an electrical arc is formed through that gas from the nozzle to the surface that is being cut, turning some of that gas to plasma. The plasma is sufficiently hot to melt the metal being cut and moves sufficiently fast to blow molten metal away from the cut. The plasma, which is maintained between the work-piece and electrode, travels at over 9000 MILES PER HOUR (15,000 km/h). That’s over twelve times the speed of sound.
Advantages of Plasma vs. Oxy-Fuel Torch
Plasma does not use expensive, hazardous gases, only compressed air. It imparts much less heat into the piece being cut, eliminating warping. It leaves little to no slag to clean up or grind off. The cost per cutting hour can be less than oxy-fuel since there is no gas cost. It is also much quicker and easier. So, you cut better, faster and inexpensively.
Achieve Fast & Professional Quality Results
With variety of adjustable parameters and digital display of current, you can perfectly adjust a variety of conditions to suit your welding/cutting preferences and achieve optimal, professional quality results.
Air Requirements (Included Air Filter/Regulator)
Compressed air is the most popular gas used for plasma cutting. You can use an air compressor or a bottle of compressed air. The CFM (Cubic Foot per Minute) is important because that is the amount of air that will be distributed per minute and will keep your RAMSOND SUPER 160P running consistently. The PSI (Pounds per Square Inch) is the actual air pressure required to operate your SUPER 160P (50-75 psi). The other gas used is nitrogen, but the only advantages to using it is for when cutting stainless steel. You will get a cleaner cut but the cut thickness will be diminished a little. With some exotic metals a gas mixture may be needed.
You will also want to have clean and dry air when operating any plasma cutter. Ramsond SUPER 160P comes already equipped with an air filter/regulator that is designed to keep the air dry and clean. Dry air is important because if there is moisture in the line it will travel with the air and exit the end of the torch. This is not necessarily dangerous but will shorten the life of your consumables because the arc will follow the moisture in all directions and erode the tip prematurely.
ARGON REGULATOR/FLOW METER (INCLUDED)
Included with the RAMSOND SUPER 160P is an Argon Regulator & Flow meter combination which accommodates highly precise adjustment of gas flow. It is a perfect/often necessary companion for TIG Welding. The use flow meter provides more accurate readings than regulator gauges which substantially reduces gas waste.
