If you are reading this you probably already know what you are looking at. A linear sander that will perform flat, moulded, primer, and denib sanding. It has been imitated by every major manufacturer in this category, but they never quite got it right. Fladder did from the start. It is built like the proverbial brick outhouse, and will easily outlast me and the next generation of users. During the eleven years it has been in use, only the sanding blades have been replaced, and they seem to last forever...according to Fladder 200 hours. In use as a primer sander I get a lot more than that. It replaced five men hand sanding primed window grille bars for two hours a day, with one man operating the machine one hour per day. And it does a much more thorough, and consistent job. Other than cosmetics, this machine is nearly the same as it was when I bought it new. It has seen very light use during the last five or six years. Using the number of blade changeovers I have made, five boxes of 100...that's ten total changeovers....I would estimate 2500 hours of use, if that. The current blades still have some life left, and have been in place for three years. Looking at the way the machine is built, it could well go tens of thousands of hours. It is an extremely simple machine to set up and operate; and the only maintenance required is cleaning with compressed air. It is as close to idiotproof as any piece of equipment I have owned. The machine is a two module, two counter rotating top, and two counter rotating bottom heads. For my use. the blades extend enough to hit all four edges of my parts, evenly spaced, four wide at a time. With the full complement of blades(12) it will clean s2s2e of a 1x6 (3/4 x 5 1/2 nominal). Two additional modules can be added to the machine, with four more sanding heads (two left side/two right side) for a capacity of 6x6. The spindle carriages are tiltable on large ball joints in three axes to accommodate very irregular shapes. Original purchase price was $37,000.
