(NOT FOR USE WITH ALUMINUM SYSTEM'S) A low cost, easy to operate, safe, portable scaffolding built of rugged steel. It's perfect for shingling, siding, sheathing, insulating, painting, building, roofing, home repair and maintenance. The Pump Jack System allows you to raise workers, equipment and materials with the push of your foot, and to lower them with the turn of the hand crank. This versatile system can easily be adjusted to any height up to 30 feet, and save you half the time over other scaffolding. The pump jack is held secure to wood poles with a positive double lock system. Raise to position with foot pump and lower with the hand crank. No more than 500 pounds between any two jack poles. This capacity considers a 4:1 safety factor required by OSHA standards when installed according to instructions. Wood walk planks should be made of Scaffold Grade or equivalent lumber. When fabricated from 2 inch full thickness undressed lumber, the maximum span between supports should not exceed 7 feet. Aluminum walk planks must have been manufactured for that purpose and should not exceed 24 feet in length. The maximum span between supports should not exceed 11 feet. Aluminum walk planks longer than 12 feet and less than 24 feet must always be supported in the middle of the platform with a jack in addition to one at each end. All walk planks should be overlapped a minimum of 12 inches and secured from movement. All scaffold planks must extend no less than 6 inches and no more than 12 inches over the support arm. SETTING THE JACK, POLE AND WALK PLANKS Space poles uniformly not more than 7 feet on center when using 2 inch thick normal walk planks, 9 feet on center when using 2 inch undressed lumber or 11 feet on center when using aluminum walk planks longer than 12 feet at both ends and in the middle of the walk platform. Poles should not exceed 30 feet in height. Wood poles should be made of a clear straight grained fir wood, free from all knots or defects. Poles must consist of two 2x4's that measure 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" nailed together with 10d common nails. All nails should be spaced 12 inches center to center, staggered uniformly from opposite outside edges. The two 2x4's should provide a finished pole 3" x 3 1/2". Splices may be used to extend the pole to a maximum of 30 feet. The 2x4's must overlap a minimum of 3 feet and nails should be spaced a minimum of 6 inches center to center for a distance of 18 inches on each side of the splice. Mending plates should be installed at all splices so as to develop the full strength of the member. Countersink all nails. Attach brace (Part #624) to top of pole by loosening the wing nut on jack brace, then slide the clamp over the wood pole so that the scam faces the carriage bold and tighten at the desired height. Nail clamp to pole. Position on the poles along the work wall and secure in place with the jack brace at the top. The round bar of the brace should be fastened to the work wall at a right angle to the walk plank. The angle bar of the brace is then fastened to the right or left as desired. Spacing between the brace arms is 32 inches, enabling installation of studs 16 inches apart. The seam of the pole must face the work wall. Embed the bottom of the pole in dirt about 3" to 4". Then install a jack brace (Part #624) at the bottom of the pole to prevent slippage. All poles must be on a firm foundation (mud sill). Additional jack braces must be installed vertically along each pole no more than 10 feet apart. Attach the jack (Part #622) to the pole with the bed facing the work wall by removing the round pin and roller, crank and square pedal. Place the jack over the pole and reconnect parts. Open jack fully extending the platform arm. Place walk planks onto platform arm, fully deck and secure against movement. Install guard rails (Part #628) (a top-rail and a mid-rail) by using guardrail holder or workbench. Install tow boards and end-rails in compliance with regulations. There should be no more than two people on jack platform between any two jacks. The jack scaffolding must not be used over 30 feet off the ground. Only one walk plank should be supported between any two jack poles. An access ladder or equivalent safe access to the work platform must be provided. Stand on walk plank with the jack and pole in front of you; lock the crank by sliding the crank handle to the right or left until square rod is in square hole. Place your foot in the stirrup and pump slowly until the platform is raised approximately 1 foot. Repeat these procedures to the other jacks. Always keep work surface level. IMPORTANT - raise stirrup to the "up" position when desired height is reached. With your back to the work wall, face the pole and raise the stirrup to the "up" position. Unlock the crank by sliding the handle to the right or left until it turns freely. Holding onto pole, place one foot on the square pedal of the lower lock, press down and hold open. Take hold of the crank handle and turn to lower bracket. Lower walk platform approximately one foot. Repeat procedures with other jacks. Always keep work surface level. When passing a jack brace that is already installed, an extra brace should be installed approximately 4 feet above the one to be passed until the original brace is reinstalled. Remove the nails holding the original jack brace to the pole along with the wing nut and carriage bold. Let the jack brace swing down and away from pole. DO NOT REMOVE jack brace from the wall. Move platform and re-install brace. INSPECT ALL JACK EQUIPMENT INCLUDING THE JACK POLE BEFORE AND AFTER EACH USE TO BE SURE THAT THERE IS NO DAMAGE, DEFORMATION OR DETERIORATION DUE TO RUSTING OR EXTENSIVE USES TO ANY OF THE EQUIPMENT COMPONENTS. PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO YOUR JACK POLES. ENSURE THAT ALL POLES ARE IN GOOD CONDITION AT ALL TIMES. IF ANY SPLITTING OR DETERIORATION OF THE POLE TAKES PLACE, DISCARD AT ONCE. DO NOT THROW OR DROP ANY PUMP JACK COMPONENTS FROM A BUILDING OR ONTO A TRUCK. ALWAYS HANDLE WITH CARE. DO NOT USE EQUIPMENT IF IT HAS BEEN EXPOSED TO EXTREME HEAT OR COLD. DO NOT USE EQUIPMENT IF WET OR FROZEN FEDERAL REGULATIONS REQUIRE THE USER TO HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF ALL REGULATIONS THAT APPLY TO THE USE AND CARE OF THIS PRODUCT AND THAT THE EMPLOYER PROVIDE TRAINING. THIS PRODUCT MUST BE USED IN STRICT COMPLIANCE WITH LOCAL, STATE AND FEDERAL OSHA REGULATIONS. WE ARE A MASTER DISTRIBUTER FOR MALCO PRODUCTS If you have any questions, feel free to send an email.
